HOW TO Smart Shop a Sale

Here’s the deal… we all love a DEAL!

But when you buy something that’s not great, just because it was on sale - it’s actually not such a good deal after all. If you are currently drowning in emails offering unbeatable winter sales, it can be hard not to resist. Here’s my advice to avoid over spending when you’re trying to save a buck:

  • IF YOU ARE IN THE MARKET FOR SOMETHING SPECIFIC sales can be your best friend. Search for what you need, avoid the rest.

  • IF YOU ARE NOT IN THE MARKET FOR SOMETHING SPECIFIC here’s where things get dangerous. If you browse with no goal, just make sure you evaluate your finds with the same strictness as you would at full price. Questions to ask yourself:

  1. Is this different from what I already own?

  2. Will it compete with other items or offer a solution to getting dressed in a certain scenario?

  3. If I saw this on someone else, would I notice and what would I think?

  4. Does this fit into my personal style? And my lifestyle? Or is this something that is fabulous, but realistically…not for me?

  5. Will I still be excited about this in a few weeks, or I am just chasing a quick high?

  • IGNORE RETAILERS WHO’S PRODUCT YOU CAN EASILY AFFORD AT FULL PRICE. It’ll be too tempting to avoid buying something because it’s “SO CHEAP!” which, is usually how we end up with closet clutter and junk. Unless, of course you’re in the market for something specific. Then, see #1.
