Winner Winner, It’s Still Winter... 5 Staples To Get You Through

Most people I know complain about the months after New Years. Especially in the Northeast where we are, when January through March are typically cold and wet, with no holidays left to cheer up the dark days. You know what makes cold weather more fun? Cozy sweaters, boots that pull together a wintery outfit and a coat you can cocoon in all season.

These 5 staples are worth buying, even mid-season, because they are as classic as can be but also impeccably updated. So you are guaranteed to wear them next year too.

1. The Long Cocoon Coat

I’m personally obsessed with oversized, wool coats at the moment for both my clients and myself. Are they the warmest option out there? No, but they ARE the best for layering over the oversized blazers, dolman sleeved knits and chunky cardigans that you’re already wearing.

2. The Knee High Boot

Preferably something with a little heel for days when it’s not too slippery out there. These are especially awesome because :

1. The more leg coverage, the warmer they are

2. If you’re drowning in your cocoon coat and mega sweater life, a polished boot will reign it all in.

3. Layering Turtlenecks

When one sweater just won’t cut it, add another. Specifically — I love a super thin turtleneck underneath a chunkier crew neck or cardigan. You’ll be a bazillion times warmer, and your outfit will be even more interesting.

This can be done dressy or casual, but easiest to execute with a thin cotton or merino wool turtleneck (linked) because it won’t get too bulky.

4. The Lug Sole Boot

For days when it IS slippery out there, a lug sole goes a long way. Unlike a specific rain or snow boot, these can be worn in both but also super stylish for any sunny, cold day.

Bold Sunglasses

I love a bold pair of sunglasses to top off heavier winter styles. I tend towards black (Loewe, linked here, as well as Prada and Saint Laurent are some of my current faves RN) although a white or a rich color like oxblood or green could be a fun statement too.
